The Age of Agents Has Arrived: My Top Takeaways from Microsoft Build 2025

Attending Microsoft Build 2025 in person in Seattle was an inspiring experience. The event made one thing abundantly clear: the age of AI agents is no longer a future vision—it’s our present reality. From foundational infrastructure to low-code tools, Microsoft is building an ecosystem where intelligent agents can thrive.

Here are my top takeaways from this year’s event:

🎤 Keynote Highlights

    1. Opening Keynote with Satya Nadella and Microsoft Leaders
This keynote set the tone for the entire event, showcasing Microsoft’s vision for agentic computing, AI infrastructure, and developer empowerment across GitHub, Azure, and Microsoft 365.

    2. Unpacking the Tech with Scott, Jay, and Charles
Jay Parikh, Charles Lamanna, Scott Guthrie dug deeper into the technology behind the announcements made on Day 1, with a focus on the role developers play in helping enterprises successfully embrace AI and digital transformation, the latest in Copilot, Azure, GitHub, and Windows AI innovations, and the significance of trust, security, and governance.

    3. Scott and Mark Learn to... Live!
No slides, just these two amazing individuals working together live and unscripted.  They used Semantic Kernal, SLMs, and a non-internet connected local network to get a robot to deliver a Coke to Scott on stage.  These talks are always filled with humor and great learning content.

1. The Agentic Era Is Here

Last year, we heard about the potential of AI agents. This year, we saw them in action. Microsoft is embedding agents across its ecosystem—from Windows and Microsoft 365 to Azure and GitHub. These agents are not just reactive—they’re proactive, context-aware, and capable of reasoning and acting autonomously.

Explore the vision in the Microsoft Build 2025 Book of News.

2. Microsoft Fabric: The Unified Data Backbone

Microsoft Fabric continues to evolve as the unified platform for data integration, engineering, and analytics. It’s now central to building intelligent applications, especially when paired with AI agents. The seamless integration with Power BI, Synapse, Copilot Studio, and Azure Data Factory makes it a powerful foundation for real-time, data-driven decision-making.

3. Copilot Studio: Build and Orchestrate Your Own Agents

Copilot Studio was a major highlight. It now supports multi-agent orchestration, grounding, and memory—making it easier than ever to build custom copilots that can reason and act across systems. Whether you're a developer or a business user, Copilot Studio empowers you to create intelligent agents with minimal code.

4. Power Platform: AI-First Low-Code Development

The Power Platform continues to push the boundaries of low-code development. With AI deeply integrated into Power Apps, Power Automate, and Power Virtual Agents, creators can build smarter, faster, and more intuitive solutions. The synergy with Copilot Studio makes it even more powerful for enterprise automation.

5. MCP: Model Context Protocol – The Future of Agent Integration

One of the most exciting innovations was the introduction of Model Context Protocol (MCP). MCP is a new open standard that allows AI agents to dynamically connect to external data, APIs, and services—without hardcoding logic. It simplifies how agents access real-time information and perform actions securely and contextually.

MCP servers act as bridges between agents and enterprise systems, enabling seamless integration and orchestration. This is a game-changer for building scalable, intelligent agent ecosystems.

Final Thoughts

Microsoft Build 2025 confirmed that we’re entering a new era—not just of apps, but of intelligent agents that can reason, act, and collaborate. If you couldn’t attend in person, I highly recommend checking out the on-demand sessions.
